Kendal at Oberlin Kept Their Residents Connected to Loved Ones with Video

Kendal at Oberlin (KaO) is a Life Plan Community for older adults. To celebrate the 2020 holidays safely during COVID-19, the team needed creative ways to help residents stay connected to their loved ones. Gather Voices’ software solution empowered the KaO team to simply and quickly gather, edit, and share more than 250 video greetings from loved ones across the country. The videos not only fostered joy and connection among residents but also offered healing effects to those suffering from memory loss in a time of isolation.

Kendal at Oberlin Kept Their Community Connected in a Time of Need

Before Gather Voices

The COVID-19 pandemic changed the way Kendal at Oberlin kept their residents connected to their loved ones during the holidays. The team needed simple, creative solutions to foster authentic human connection.

Using Gather Voices

With Gather Voices, Kendal at Oberlin:

  • Collected holiday greetings videos for residents from over 225 family members and friends, located across the country and world
  • Shared on-demand access to personalized videos that could be viewed by residents anytime, using their own devices
  • Recreated a community tradition safely by pre-recording singalong videos from staff and giving residents on-demand access
  • Leveraged the healing power of video to help those suffering from memory loss in a time of isolation

Michele Tarsitano-Amato, Director of Creative Arts Therapy at Kendal at Oberlin, said: “Our Kendal residents were overjoyed to be able to access their videos from their personal device at any moment in the day...Many shed tears from being able to see and hear their loved ones again.”
